When we decided to add a "Barre" class to the timetable we knew we had to find the right teacher. I've done lots of Barre in the past and whilst I loved the burn and toned bum it gave me, I often felt like I wasn't actually learning the strategies to perform the ballet moves in the right way and without putting any undue strain on my body.
At Soul Pilates, finding the strategy to make a movement feel 'easier' is a key part of our offering. Movement shouldn't be hard: if I want to challenge myself I take a solid movement strategy and maybe add some additional load or change my orientation. We move around all the time - we need it to be effortless!
So when Katherine emailed me to say she was a Pilates teacher looking to work for us I jumped at the chance. As a professional dancer and dance teacher, with a background in Ballet, as well as a Pilates instructor I knew we were onto a good thing.
Our Barre classes are super popular each week and for good reason. Katherine has taken all the best bits from Pilates and brought it to a standing workout full of Ballet inspiration with a mindful element - quite a feat I think! Yes you'll feel the burn and yes I can feel my backside trying it's best to give Kim K a run for her money, but I have also learned how to stand on one leg without collapsing through my spine, how to push up onto my toes without compromising my ankles and how to feel like a dancer within. All key requirements for functional, pain free, movement.
So whilst I run the studio and you may think I am biased, I always block out a slot to attend this class each week at lunchtime. I absolutely love it and I'm so pleased we were able to find a Soul Pilates way of bring you to the Barre. I get so many texts and emails with the most amazing feedback and when I see clients the next day there's always a "that was the hardest one yet!" comment. I love that you love it.
